Visit to Denia Castle

Posted by Chris in News

Last week Robin (a fellow Spanish Student) and myself Visited Denia’s castle. The town is dominated by the ‘Castello’, an old castle built first by the Christain troops during the seige of the town by the Muslims. Its my second visit to the castle, which I find amazing, history there dates from before the year 700. In 713 the Muslims took control of the stronghold. Its was later recaptured in 1244 by the Christians. Walking around the castle you can see the damage from war. When the castle was taken on 17th November, 1708 - During the War of Succession. Many cannon, musket or buck shot holes can still been seen. (as in my photos). The castle also features the best views of Denia and is worth the trip for that if castles aren’t your thing.

The photo album will be updated shorty with photos from this trip. More history about the castle can be found here
